Gosh, two in one day?! This post would normally appear on www.brittanyo.tumblr.com but I couldn't help but feature it here first because I want people to know that I am more than just a paranoid, wannabe political pundit. I am sure some people, especially the people close to me would like to know why I don't join the masses and get a facebook or myspace. They assume that I am hiding behind some facade by having an anonymous blog (which isn't all true see my tumblr page). I have tons of reasons for not having either social networks but here are a few just for your consideration:
1. By posting all our information on social networking sites we are making it that much easier for the government to invade our privacy. We don't want the government spying on us but we do it to ourselves with these sites. By filling out forms on the WORLD WIDE WEB that contain all our information we allow anyone with access to hacking knowledge to hack into our lives. I don't go around nude everyday and therefore would not want my private life to be exposed either.
2. I hate nosy people - other then myself. Biased much? People who pry or assume things about other people based on images of them that appear on the web have no sense of privacy or distinction between what's on the surface and what lies beneath. Pictures and photgraphs today are mere optical illusions.
3. "Social" networking sites aren't really about socializing at all. They keep people inside and cause them to distort reality. You can not form meaningful relationships from an LCD screen. You can not compensate the beating of a heart with a click of a mouse. What this world is suffering from is the serious erosion of society. A society glued to the computer seeking real human interaction through cyber space.
